New single contact BA15, Bosch, American Pre-Focus bulbs and LED lamps

Lucas P-100 Projector Headlamp

In addition to our extensive range of double contact SBC (BA15D), Bosch (BA20D) and American Pre-focus (P15D-30) twin filament headlamp bulbs, Classic Bulbs stock a wide range hard to find single-contact bulbs for head, spot and fog lamp applications.

Single contact SCC (BA15S or 1156) bulbs were often used in Lucas headlamps from the ‘30s to the ‘50s with wattages of 24, 36 and 48W, though 60W bulbs were also made for higher power head and spot lamp applications. Unavailable for a long time, these BA15S 60W bulbs with a single axial filament have now been produced by Classic Bulbs. BA15S 60W is bulb number B90 - also superseding bulbs B20, B29 and B186. We have also produced some 60W single axial filament bulbs with the SBC (BA15D) double contact base, bulb number B26 - that superseded B151.

Single contact Bosch bulbs were used in Bosch and Lucas headlamps from the ‘30s to the ‘50s, including the Lucas P100 – usually fitted with 48W B96 or 45W B96T (B398 is the 24V equivalent, rated at 50W). More commonly used were the lower power, 36W versions – 6V B130 and 12V B421. Classic Bulbs has now produced an LED upgrade for these single contact, single filament Bosch bulbs - available in 3000k ‘Warm White’ or 4300k ‘Bright White’, these LED lights feature 16 x transverse Cree 2525 LEDs with an integral aluminium heatsink.

The lamps accept 6, 12 or 24V input and are suitable for negative or positive earth systems. These LEDs don't have an integral lens, so can be used in tripod type lamps. For Warm White light please see part number BA20SLED-S30TR and for Bright White see BA20SLED-S43TR.

Single contact American Pre-focus (APF) bulbs were used in a number of different pre and early post War spot lamps - including 8” and 9” ‘Desmolite’ anti dazzle road and fog lamps as well as some Notek lamps – found on Rolls Royce Phantoms and 1930s Bentleys. Single-contact APF bulbs were originally available in both 6V/36W and 12V/36 or 48W (bulb numbers 667 and 668 for transverse filaments, 669 and 670 for axial filaments). As the old stock of these bulbs has disappeared, but they are still required by enthusiasts, Classic Bulbs has commissioned the manufacture of single contact APF bulbs at 6V/36W and 12V/42W - both with the more common transverse filament. These bulbs are available under part numbers BA5679 (6V) and BA5678 (12V)

As an alternative, we have also produced LED upgrade lamps with the single contact APF base - available in 3000k ‘Warm White’ or 4300k ‘Bright White’, these LED lamps feature 16 x transverse Cree 2525 LEDs with an integral aluminium heatsink. They accept 6, 12 or 24V input and are suitable for both negative and positive earth systems. As they don't have an integral lens, they can also be used in tripod-type lamps. For Warm White, please see part number APFLED-S30TR and for Bright White see APFLED-S43TR.
